The Right Way

"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful." Psalm 1. The introduction to the book of Psalms is found in Psalm 1, also known as the preamble. In other words, it acts as an introduction to the rest of the book. What is said in Psalm 1 is important to remember when reading the other Psalms in the book.
These words, "Blessed is the man," are at the beginning of each of the psalms. In the first chapter of Psalm, God responds to the most fundamental question that man can ask: How can I be happy (blessed) in this life? Is that the case? Is it even God's intention for us to enjoy life? Absolutely! And the joy that comes from this is not fleeting but rather unending. The original Hebrew word that we translate as "blessed" is actually plural. That is to say; it refers to blessings that last forever. The word can also be read as happiness or blessednesses.
How, then, can I find happiness, actual happiness? Psalm 1 is considered a wisdom psalm because it teaches us that choosing to live our lives in accordance with God's will is the path that leads to happiness. The author of this psalm describes two different paths or routes that one can take in life. The first path is the correct one that leads to joy, whereas the second path is the incorrect one that results in unhappiness.
